If the blocks won't fall...

...throw a building at them.

Lu liked the legos but was kind of surprised that they didn't fall over like the other blocks.

This is mostly for the grandparents but if that's not you, you can enjoy too!

Fun with boxes

As we all know the real fun is the box.
This is the best thing ever.

Hmm. What's out there? Are those legos?

First attempt at standing on her own! Cardboard boxes inspire greatness.

Back down again and loving every minute of it.

Package from New Hampshire!

My parents have put their house on the market which means they're shipping us boxes. We got a package today! Thanks Mom and Dad.
What is it Mom? Can I eat it?

Legos! and books! (yes that's right - that is Anne of Green Gables AND Anne of the Island)

And cookie cutters. Look! It's the ginger bread man and woman that we used as kids. And the snowman.

And a dead clown? Hmmmm.

Baby Godzilla

We've had blocks at our house for a couple of years now for visiting kid friends. Lucy discovered the joy of playing Godzilla today. We tried to capture her chortling as she knocks down our towers. The best of the giggling was not captured but this is still pretty funny.

And the winner is...

Lu's still up....she snoozed a little but was wide eyed and still partying well past her bed time.

Christina

Lu gets some snuggle time with Marsha. She and Rich came up to take in the curling action. Marsha's necklace was a big hit.

The winners!

Congratulations to John, Eric and Angie!

5th Annual Tiki Spiel

This weekend was the 5th Annual Tiki Spiel. Well, not technically. It is the 5th annual bonspiel that we've done but every year is a different theme. Folks from all over of all levels of curling ability show up, meet new friends, curl a little, have a few beers and some snacks and the winners get a prize...what's not to like. :)

Maarit parties it up.

Chris and Nadine all smiles.

Ryan chatting with Joel. I'm sure they're having fun although Ry looks pretty intense here.

Thanks Christina for taking pictures for us!

Meeting baby Z

We took a day trip up to the edge of the wilderness, Ely, yesterday. It was great to see Adriane and Steven! And of course meet Zoella. We bundled the babies and went for a walk in the lovely winter sunshine.

Such a cutie! Welcome Z to the world.

Lucy and Zoella get to know each other. There was lots of staring, drooling, tooting and reaching out with baby tentacles.

See Z, tummy time is not so bad.

Sitting up and looking silly

Lucy has been working on her sitting skills. Over the last few days she's reached a 84.5% success rate with sitting on her own for more than 30 seconds. Even then she sometimes gets excited, reaches for a toy and face plants. I'm torn about how much I should be hovering and catching her. Obviously I don't want her to get hurt or upset but she's also got to figure out where the tipping point is.
Since being in my belly Lu has had busy hands. She is always touching, feeling, scratching, wiggling etc. With all the excema stuff, she was scratching the heck out of her head and ears. Now I think it's just habit. So the last few days she's been at it again and we keep a hat on her when she's at daycare. We have several hats that tie under her chin because those busy hands are really good at getting any other type of hat off in milli-seconds.
This morning all her other hats were in the wash so we busted out this one. Story goes that an Erickson relative in Ireland knit this hat and Ryan wore it as a baby. There is a matching sweater. It's a bit on the scratchy side so I put a thin little hat on under it. And then I laughed out loud. She looks so much like Little Bo Peep - I just couldn't help myself.
Here she is sitting all by herself and looking cute and ridiculous.

She uses tools!

Lu's been experimenting with food and feeding her self and generally chewing on everything within reach. This is a video of her exploring...and it's the shorter of the two videos I took. I wanted to post the long one but it was taking FOREVER to load....so here you go.  Have fun watching our kid be awesome and smear food all over her face. I hope it makes you smile.

Happy Birthday Haley!

This weekend we celebrated the female river otter (Haley/Anang) 's birthday. As on most weekend that I'm working, Ryan and Lucy came to visit. It's always nice to see them.

Photo op with "Splish"

Even the burbot got dressed up for the party.
It was a busy weekend but a fun one too.

Rollin' to new places

I turned my back for one minute...and soon heard a squawk from the living room. Roller girl had shimmied her way across the room.

She started out on the blanket. And rolled over several toys to get to the couch.
