I see Lake Superior everyday. Most days within minutes of waking up. And no matter how many times I see the waves, or steam or clouds or reflections, I still catch myself watching for whales. This habit comes from a magical summer spent sleeping in a tent and driving a bus on and around San Juan Island. Wherever we went, all eyes were on the ocean...watching for whales. It's a thrill, a delight, sometimes a disappointment, and always full of expectation that at any moment....life could reveal a miracle.
But if you're not watching for it you will miss it. This is a blog about all the stuff that gets found...while we're watching for whales.
Such a beautiful and vivid notion Sarah! Thank you for sharing this idea-- of watching for whales throughout one's days and life. I look forward to what other joys your blog will reveal....
ReplyDeleteDear Sarah, daughter of mine, I love the way you put the old phrase of 'life is what happens when you are busy planning other things'. I love yours for its poetic impact...a gem.
